There are 72 unvisited grounds (for me) around England
hosting Step 5 games tomorrow. My choice
is determined for me by the Russians.
They are good at this kind of thing (allegedly).
Here’s how it works. It's randomish.
- The list order below was randomised using the RAND() function in Excel before copying across to the blog template.
- Dynamo Moscow are playing Rubin Kazan in a match that kicks off at 5.30pm UK time.
- The official time (taken from the Soccerway website) of the FINAL goal in the game will then be matched against the list.
- If there are no goals in the game then I’m going to Clapton.
- Some teams have two chances – for example I could end up at Brimscombe & Thrupp either by a 5th minute or a 73rd minute goal (assuming there were no other goals in the rest of the game). This remains fair and random because the list order is random. The final decision will be as random as the distribution of goals across a game, which any fan will know, is not an even distribution. Goals tend to cluster around certain points in time, specifically when you are going for a non-league wee or distracted by a non-league dog.
- SMALL PRINT: if it emerges that I accidentally choose a ground that I have already visited, or I choose a groundsharing tenant (rather than a landlord) then I reserve the right to go back to the penultimate goal of the game for the decision.
UPDATE - What actually happened?
Clapton held the place with the 0-0 scoreline up to the 14th minute, when Kirby Muxloe took over as Dinamo Moscow took the lead. This position lasted into the second half, but an equaliser scored by Dmitri Poloz for Rubin Kazan turned out to be the last goal of the game. This was in the 51st minute, so Goole (v Worksop Town) in the Northern Counties East will be my randomish destination. There is evidence on Twitter and Facebook that three other human beings were gripped, or slightly gripped, by this saga. I thank you.
